Somerset Stragglers travelled to Seaton CC for the annual fixture against Free Foresters in high spirits on the back of recent wins against Devon Dumplings and Bridgetown CC, but any early enthusiasm was soon quashed with the third ball of the game as Harry Everett was clean bowled in the first over. Matt Matravers and Bhuvi Jayaraman rebuilt steadily with 26 and 20 respectively before Jayaraman and number four Pete Deakin fell in quick succession. When Matt Matravers fell on the stroke of lunch Stragglers were precariously placed at 58-4.
After the interval some lusty blows from Sunil Lachit took the Stragglers to 82 in the twenty-second over, but he holed out to deep midwicket looking to clear the boundary off the left arm finger spin of Will McKegney. When Luke Williams fell with the score on 97-6, it was left to the Stragglers middle and lower order to restore some respectability to proceedings as Sam Shaikh 43 and Statto Edmnds 27 added 62 for the 8th wicket. James Deakin ended on 10 not out as Stragglers were all out for 177 at the end of the 45th over. Will McKegney ended with 5-16 from 10 overs including 5 maidens.
In reply, Free Foresters started carefully against the classy left arm seam of Lachit, however, 27 for none became 50-3 as Sunil clean bowled both openers and number four Bretten. The off spin of Jayarman accounted for number 5 Wissett-Warner before tea was taken with Free Foresters on 68-4.
However, that was as good as it got for the Stragglers as Chris Sanbach (67 not out) and George Sandbach (61 not out) took Free Foresters to the required target without loss of another wicket with 13 of the scheduled last 20 overs to be bowled as Free Foresters won convincingly by 6 wickets. For Stragglers, Sunil Lachit finished with 3-39 from 12 overs, Jayaraman 1-34 whilst Ian Tier returned 0-25 from his 7 overs with the new ball.
